Lychgatehouse

A
Charming
16th Century Cottage

Welcome to Lychgate House, your perfect holiday rental for a cosy couple's escape. Located in the grounds of Waltham Abbey church in the Epping Forest District, this charming Grade II listed cottage offers a unique and unforgettable experience. Relax in a peaceful and beautiful setting, explore the historic surroundings and nature on the doorstep, or simply enjoy the comfort of the cottage.

Known as a local landmark, the house was built in the 15th and 16th century as a priest's dwelling and sits a few yards from the resting place of King Harold, the last Saxon king killed in 1066 at the Battle of Hastings.  Composer Thomas Tallis whom revolutionised English choral music is said to have lived in the house.

It has been many things over its long life, a toy shop, a local museum, a cafe, it has been recently been restored in a sympathetic way with modern features.
